ASME SA213/ASTM A213 This specification covers seamless ferritic and austenitic steel boiler, superheater, and heat-exchanger tubes, designated Grades T5, T9, T11, T22, TP304, TP316L,TP321, TP347 etc.TP347 seamless tubes, tubes of this material describe a high-performance, corrosion-resistant tubes made from a special grade of stainless steel, specifically designed for use in the high-pressure and high-temperature sections of Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers.

Advantages

 

TP347 is an austenitic stainless steel known for its addition of Niobium (Columbium).The Niobium acts as a "stabilizer." It preferentially combines with Carbon, preventing the formation of Chromium Carbides along the grain boundaries when the metal is heated to a specific temperature range (sensitization). This makes it highly resistant to intergranular corrosion.

 

TP347 has higher pressure integrity (no weak seam); more uniform strength and structure around the circumference; better reliability in high-pressure and high-temperature services; less prone to corrosion at a potential weld line.

 

Applications 

 

Oil & Gas / Refining Projects : Heat exchangers in catalytic reforming units, hydrocrackers, and other processes involving corrosive streams.

 

Nuclear Power: In certain auxiliary heat exchange systems.

 

Power Plants: Common in boilers, superheaters / reheaters, and heat exchangers.

 

Chemical Processing: Handles corrosive fluids and high-pressure steam, for heating or cooling aggressive chemicals..

 

Why Specify ASME SA213 TP347 usually for Heat Exchanger?

 

ASME SA213/ASTM A213 This specification usually for high-pressure and high-temperature services, such as boiler, superheater, and heat-exchangers. And TP347 maintains its strength at elevated temperatures better than standard grades like TP304 or TP316L.

 

TP347 can chloride stress corrosion cracking (CSCC) resistance: While not as resistant as a duplex stainless steel, its niobium stabilization offers some improvement over non-stabilized grades.

 

If the heat exchanger will operate, or even be shut down, in a temperature range that causes "sensitization" (425–815°C / 800–1500°F), TP347 is an excellent choice to prevent this specific failure mode.Involve risk of intergranular corrosion.
